Marten

Updated: Dec 16, 2020

We are working on building a line of martens that hold color and have great temperament. Our line starts with Mark and Martha. This pair is a little shy, so we'll need to work with the line to bring out some confidence.

Marten rats are also known as "red devils" because of their eyes. They can have poor eye site. Because of this, it is very important to be consistent with your handling and feeding of Marten rats. They can have a higher tendency to mistake fingers for treats or get frightened by fast movements.

Marten coats tend towards fading as they grow. We are working on breeding fading out of our line. Martens have all the same health and lifespan issues as other standard rats in a given line. They do have more porphyrin than black eyed rats and can look a little demonic on occasion.
